How many times have you eaten at a restaurant and got bad customer service or were disgusted with the lack of cleanliness? Most people I know have had this kind of experience and the funny thing is that most people never do anything about it.
Now if you have had bad customer service at a restaurant or think the conditions are unhealthy, there are several things you can do about it. You can complain to the restaurant manager or owner about the bad customer service issues and you might get a free meal or some kind of apology. If that works, then that is good.
But what do you do when the restaurant is so dirty and unclean that you have to leave before eating or actually get sick from the food? Well I have outlined several options that you can choose from depending on how far you want to take your complaint.
1. File A Complaint On The Restaurant's Comment Card
Most restaurants have comments cards that ask for your feedback on their service and food quality. You can usually find the comment cards on each food table or at the front of the restaurant near the checkout register.
2. Call Or Speak To The Manager Or Owner Of The Restaurant
You can always speak to the manager or owner of the restaurant regarding your complaint. It is always better to speak to the manager or owner of the restaurant in person regarding your complaint. So when you are in a restaurant and experience bad customer service or witness unhealthy conditions, you can immediately ask to speak to the manager or owner. This way you can get the manger or owner to take care of your complaint right then and there.
3. Call The Restaurant's Corporate Customer Service Line (Headquarters) Or File An Online Complaint Via Their Corporate Web Site Or Email
Many restaurants have a corporate customer service line that you can call to file your complaint. Many times this phone number is displayed on the restaurant comment card near the main check out register or one of the restaurant windows. In the case of fast food restaurants, the customer service line is usually always displayed on the drive up through window and in the inside of the restaurant. For larger restaurant chains, you can always file a complaint via their corporate web site or email.
4. File A Complaint With Your County or City Health Department
Filing a complaint with your county or city health department can be very effective to help get your complaint addressed by a restaurant. Depending on the state, each county or city has the responsibility to inspect food establishments within their jurisdiction at least once a year. If there is a health violation in a food establishment, it is the responsibility of the health department to handle these complaints. For example, in Dallas, all food establishment complaints are handled by the Dallas Environmental and Health Services Department (DEHSD). The department has an online database where you can search for a particular restaurant to look up their food rating score.
